Getting 2 players on Animal Crossing is pretty simple! If you're playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the Nintendo Switch, all you need is a pair of Joy-Con controllers or a Nintendo Switch Pro controller. First up, make sure the second controller is synced to your Switch. Then, on your game, head over to the airport and call in another player to your island, or if you're looking to play locally, simply press the '–' button on your joy-con and select 'Call an Islander'. The second player will then join as a secondary character from your island. You guys can fish, catch bugs, and explore together!
