Press the power button on the PS4 itself for about 7 seconds until it beeps twice. That will fully shut it down and wake it up from rest mode.

Just hold down the PS button on your controller until the Quick Menu pops up, then select 'Power' and 'Turn Off PS4'. Easy as pie!

If your controller is being stubborn, you can also simply unplug the PS4 from the power source, wait a bit, then plug it back in. Not the most elegant solution, but it works!
