I tried the whole docking station setup - overkill. Direct USB-C to HDMI did the trick. Less clutter, less hassle.
Just get a USB-C hub that has HDMI out. Plug everything in, and it should work straight away. If not, check your monitor's settings. Sometimes it's just about selecting the right input channel.
