How to Install Linux on PS3 with USB
First, download your preferred Linux distribution for PS3 (Yellow Dog Linux used to be popular). Format your USB stick to FAT32, then create a folder named 'otheros' in the root directory. Place the 'otheros.bld' file inside it. Plug the USB into your PS3, go to System Settings > Install Other OS. Follow the on-screen prompts and voila! You'll have Linux running on your PS3!
