You need to tweak the game's .ini files. Navigate to the XCOM 2 config folder and open 'XComEngine.ini'. Look for the 'ResX' and 'ResY' settings, and change them to your monitor's resolution. Save the file and you're good to go!

Why bother? The game runs fine in 16:9. But if you must, edit those .ini files.

Easiest way? Use Flawless Widescreen. It's a handy tool that fixes aspect ratio issues in many games, including XCOM 2.

I did it by using the Widescreen Fixer tool. Download it, select XCOM 2 from the list, and set your aspect ratio. Worked for me!
