Sadly, you can't technically make your 'own' shop in the traditional sense in Animal Crossing. However, you can unlock Nook's Cranny by completing tasks for Tom Nook. Afterwards, you get to influence the stock by deciding what to sell among the items you collect or craft. Think of it as curating more than owning. Still fun, though!
