You can't officially play Mario games on a PS3 since Mario is a Nintendo exclusive. But you can try using emulator software to run NES or SNES games on your PS3. Just be aware that emulators can be a legal gray area.

Mario on PS3? Unfortunately, Mario is a Nintendo character and isn't available on PlayStation consoles. You'll need a Nintendo console for that.

I've done it by installing custom firmware and using an NES emulator on my PS3. It's a bit of a process, but it works!
