Lift, sell, repeat! Build up your strength by lifting objects, sell the strength for coins, then use those coins to buy upgrades and better lifting items. It's a grind, but that's the fun of it!
Simple: lift more, sell more, upgrade more. Rinse and repeat.
I rank up by lifting until I have enough strength to buy the next upgrade. Rinse and repeat!
From my experience, don't neglect the rebirths! They might seem costly, but the multipliers they give you are totally worth it in the long run.
