First, backup your data! Then, head to the PlayStation website and download the latest PS3 system software update onto a USB stick. Pop the USB into your PS3, restart it in Safe Mode (hold the power button until you hear two beeps), and choose System Update. Easy peasy!

From personal experience, I recommend booting your PS3 into Safe Mode by holding the power button until you hear a second beep. Then, select 'System Update' and follow the prompts to reinstall the software from a USB drive.
