To remove your buddy in Pokémon GO, just go to the buddy screen, tap on your buddy, then hit the 'Swap Buddies' button. Easy peasy!

Swipe left on your buddy in the buddy menu and hit 'Swap.' Done and done.

Open your buddy menu, tap on your current buddy, then select 'Swap Buddy.' Choose a new Pokémon or simply confirm switching out your buddy. Voilà!
