For some, disabling the Steam overlay has done the trick. Go to Steam settings, in-game, and uncheck 'Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game.'

Try verifying your game files in Steam. Right-click the game, go to properties, then local files, and click verify integrity of game files. Worked for me!
