Nope, Dragon Ball Z has a lot of extra episodes and filler content. Dragon Ball Kai cuts out the fluff and focuses on the core story.
In my experience, Dragon Ball Kai is like Z on fast-forward. You still get the epic battles, but without the extra padding.
