Not exactly a copy, but Sonic definitely borrows some elements from Dragon Ball Z, especially the chaos emeralds and Super Sonic transformation. Gotta love that spiky yellow hair!

Sonic and Dragon Ball Z are pretty different overall, but it's hard to miss the similarities between Super Sonic and Super Saiyan. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Toriyama should be very flattered!
Nah, they're totally different. One's about a super-fast hedgehog saving animals, the other's about a super-strong Saiyan saving the universe.
