Steam Deck's flexibility is one of its strong suits, allowing you to use Bluetooth to connect most wireless controllers or you can go old school and use a USB-C adapter for wired connections. I've been using my PS5 controller with my Steam Deck over Bluetooth and it's flawless. It's pretty cool that Steam supports so many different controllers. Makes it easy to switch between them depending on what I feel like playing.
Just use the built-in ones, honestly. They're designed for the Deck and work best.
