Why Can't I Climb Ladders in XCOM 2?
In XCOM 2, you can't manually climb ladders because the game handles vertical movement automatically during mission phases. Just move your unit next to the ladder, and they'll climb on their own!

If your soldier isn't climbing the ladder, make sure there's no obstruction blocking the path and that you're clicking on an appropriate tile. Sometimes, you just need to re-click!
Ladders in XCOM 2 are part of the pathfinding system. Just move your character to the base of the ladder, and they'll climb up or down automatically.
Hot take: If you can't climb a ladder, it's probably user error. Check your clicks and angles again!
