Why does Steam say 'Stream' instead of 'Play'?

Steam usually says 'Play' for games that you've got installed on your device. If you're seeing 'Stream' instead of 'Play,' it might mean you're looking at a game through Steam Remote Play or another feature that allows you to play games over a network from another device. So, basically, 'Stream' pops up when the game's not running locally on your machine.

'Stream' means the game is running from another PC or device and you're streaming it to the one you're currently using. It's a part of Steam's in-home streaming service, so you're not playing it directly off your device, but rather playing it over your network from another computer.

It's a glitch, probably. Mine always says 'Play'. Try restarting Steam or checking your settings.

If you're a Steam player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is the official Steam gift card, which you can win and use to get anything you want essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!

The brands referenced on this page are not sponsors of the rewards or otherwise affiliated with this company.
