Some folks didn't like the animation style change and thought the transformations (especially Super Saiyan 4) deviated too much from what made the original series cool. Plus, it didn't feel like Goku was evolving as a character anymore.

Dragon Ball GT is often criticized for its inconsistent storyline and lack of involvement from Akira Toriyama, the original creator. Many fans felt the show didn't capture the same magic as the earlier series.

GT's pacing was also weird. Some arcs dragged on, while others felt rushed. It didn't help that the power scaling seemed all over the place.

Hot take: Dragon Ball GT isn't bad, it just tried something different. Folks expecting the same old thing were bound to be disappointed.
