You can't be mayor, but you kinda become a big deal in other ways. Building settlements and being a hero (or villain) across the Commonwealth is your true calling in Fallout 4. Who needs to be mayor when you can be the Wasteland's savior...or its worst nightmare?
Nope, the title of mayor isn't up for grabs in Fallout 4. Diamond City already has its own mayor when you arrive, and you don't get to take over. You do get to influence things a bit, but running for office isn't in the cards.
Actually, being mayor sounds like way too much paperwork anyway. Fallout 4's got enough on its plate with saving the Commonwealth and dealing with all those pesky raiders and super mutants. Who's got time for city council meetings?
