Can you make your followers equip things in Fallout 4?
Yeap, just give them the item through the trade menu and press a button to make them equip it. Simple as that. But remember, followers won’t wear items that aren't better than their default gear unless it's their preferred type or significantly ups their stats.

Absolutely! Just walk up to your companion, engage in dialogue, and choose the 'Trade' option. From there, you can transfer any item to their inventory. Highlight the item you want them to equip and press the appropriate button (it varies by platform: Y on Xbox, Triangle on PlayStation, and T on PC). Voila, they’re now rocking that new armor or wielding that powerful weapon you gave them!
Honestly, sometimes I think my followers have better fashion sense than I do. I handed my companion a piece of armor, did the whole 'equip' thing, and they looked way cooler than me. Wish it was this easy to dress stylish in real life, lol.
No need. They're fine just as they are. Their default settings are optimal for most in-game scenarios.
