Arming settlers in Fallout 4 is super simple but super important for keeping your settlements safe from raiders and super mutants. First up, stroll into your inventory and find a weapon you wanna give to a settler. Then, walk up to them and enter the trade menu. Drop the weapon into their inventory. Here's the kicker: you gotta also give them some ammo for that weapon. Yep, just one bullet will do—they magically never run out (except for heavy weapons, so keep that in mind). After that, just exit the trade menu, and watch as they equip it automatically. Voila, your settlers are now armed and slightly less dangerous.

To arm settlers in Fallout 4, trade with them and give them a weapon and one unit of the correct ammo. They'll equip the weapon automatically.

Honestly, just toss them any old gun and a bullet. They'll figure it out. If they can't, maybe they weren't meant to survive the wasteland.
