Nope, you don't cast lands in Magic The Gathering! Instead, you play them. Basically, you're allowed to place one land card from your hand onto the battlefield per turn, assuming you've got one to play. This is how you generate mana, which is the resource you use to cast spells and summon creatures. Think of lands more like laying down the foundation for your magical endeavors rather than casting spells themselves.

Short answer: No. You place them on the battlefield; you don't cast them. It's an important distinction because unlike casting spells, playing a land isn't something your opponent can respond to with an instant or a special ability. It's one of the smooth moves you get in the game.

Actually, yes, but only technically in very rare cases! Normally, you don't 'cast' lands. You play them. But! There are a couple of cards out there that turn lands into spells. Like, 'Dryad Arbor' is a land creature you can play, and some effects let you 'cast' lands. So, 99.9% of the time, it's no, but MTG is full of exceptions.

If you're an MTG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of MTG cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
