Yep, cost reduction does apply to alternate costs in Magic The Gathering. So if you're casting a spell using an alternate cost, any applicable cost reductions you have will lower that cost even further. Think of it as a discount on a sale price - the savings just keep piling up!

Actually, it depends on the card. Some cost reductions specify they only apply to the mana cost, not to alternate costs. Always read your cards carefully!

In my experience, cost reductions affecting alternate costs can lead to some powerful plays. I once combo'd a card with an alternate casting cost with a cost reducer and it was game-changing. It definitely works, but like anything in MTG, the specifics can vary.

If you're an MTG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of MTG cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
