Commanders aren't special when it comes to taking damage—they get hit just like any other creature. The twist? If a commander dishes out a total of 21 combat damage to you, it's game over, buddy. So armor up!

In MTG, a commander takes damage just like any other creature in play. They can be damaged by being attacked by other creatures, spells, or abilities that deal damage. However, a key thing to remember is that in Commander format, if a commander takes 21 points of combat damage from a single other commander over the course of the game, that player loses the game, regardless of their life total. So, keep an eye on those commander-on-commander attacks!

Just to stir the pot - honestly, worrying about your commander taking damage is missing the point. Your focus should be on strategizing your victory, not nursing your commander like a sick pet. Sure, they can take damage from attacks or spells, but your game plan should be way above that.

If you're an MTG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of MTG cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you’re wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
