How does First Strike work in MTG?
Just think of First Strike as being super quick on the draw. Your creature gets to throw the first punch in a fight. If it's strong enough, the opposing creature won't even have a chance to hit back.

First Strike in Magic The Gathering lets a creature deal its combat damage before creatures without First Strike or Double Strike during the combat damage step. So, if your creature has First Strike and enough power to take out the opposing creature, it can potentially avoid taking any damage back if it knocks out the opponent's creature first!
It's pretty simple: First Strike means hit first, maybe ask questions later. If both creatures have First Strike though, they hit each other at the same time. So, it鈥檚 not a free pass to avoid all damage.
