How does MTG regenerate work?
Regenerate basically gives your creature a second chance. Pay the cost, and if it would bite the dust that turn, it doesn't. Instead, it taps, clears off damage, and stays on the battlefield. But if something says it can't be regenerated, then it's lights out for real.

Honestly, regeneration's kinda obsolete. Most newer cards don't even use it, and it can be super confusing for new players. Wizards has mostly moved on to indestructible or other mechanics. It's a cool nostalgia trip, but not the most straightforward mechanic out there.
Regeneration in MTG is like hitting the 'undo' button on your creature's imminent demise! When you regenerate a creature, you're basically paying some mana to give it a 'shield' that will save it from being destroyed the next time it would be. This means if it's about to be trashed by damage or a destroy effect, it taps, all damage is removed from it, and it lives to fight another day. But remember, regeneration won't save your creature from being exiled, put into a graveyard for not having enough toughness, or from effects that say 'can't be regenerated.'
