How does protection work in Magic The Gathering?
Protection in MTG is a handy keyword that basically means the creature is shielded from four things: Damage, Enchanting/Equipping, Blocking, and Targeting, all remembered by the acronym DEBT. So, if your creature has protection from green, it can't be damaged, enchanted/equipped by green cards, blocked by green creatures, or targeted by green spells and abilities. It's like having an invisible shield against anything of the specified color or whatever else it says it's protected from!

Actually, protection can be a double-edged sword. Sure, it shields from a lot, but it also means you can't equip or buff your creature with anything of the protected type. So, yeah, it's awesome... until it isn't.
Think of protection in MTG as being 'immune' to whatever it's protected from. Can't touch this!
